The Reverend Kevin Baglole
January 29, 2019
The Reverend Kevin J. Baglole, passed away peacefully (in his 54th year) on Tuesday January 29, 2019 at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice after a 17 month journey with cancer. Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife Gail, son Joshua, daughter Hannah, mother Helen, sisters Karen, and Kelly (Sandro), and niece Kendra. Kevin was predeceased by his father Edward Kenneth Baglole.

Kevin worked for the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN as a Psychosocial Spiritual Bereavement Clinician. Helping people connect with a greater purpose in their last moments was Kevin’s true calling. Prior to his work with the HNHB LHIN, Kevin worked in Long Term Care first as a chaplain and later as an administrator at a number of facilities.

Throughout his rostered ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, Kevin served many local Lutheran and Anglican churches as their pastor, interim pastor, or supply pastor. Kevin was a proud member of St. Andrew’s Lodge #593, and eagerly participated in their benevolence work.

One of the great passions of Kevin’s life was the time he spent with Special Olympics Grimsby-Lincoln.

Kevin’s family wishes to express profound thanks to the care provided by Dr. Dhesy-Thind, the staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre, the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice, and Kevin’s co-workers at the LHIN.

Family and friends will gather on Monday February 4, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. for visitation at Christ’s Church Cathedral (252 James Street North, Hamilton, Ontario). We will gather again on Tuesday February 5, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. for a celebration of Kevin’s life and ministry at Christ’s Church Cathedral. A reception will follow at the Scottish Rite Club (4 Queen Street South, Hamilton, Ontario). A private family internment will take place the next day at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Beach Road, Sherkston, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to “Give Kids the World” (www.gktw.org).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Funeral Services Ridgeway, Ontario.

To Gail & all of Kevin's family My deepest condolences on your loss. I graduated from the Seminary same time as Kevin. I had a few visits in Hamilton but then lost contact. Kevin was a truly great person, kind and gentle. Even his humour was gentle. He will indeed be missed pastorally and personally. My prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathies, Gail, Joshua, and Hannah as you feel the loss of Kevin. I am very sorry that we could not be with you today to share our sympathies in person and are very sorry for not trying to connect with all of you sooner after a long time apart. I am so grateful for Kevin's friendship with my wife Michelle during some very difficult times in her life and for all of the antics that they were able to get into as camp counsellors way back in the day, which they are probably re-living right now after being re-uinted with one another last week. I am also very grateful for the kind words that Kevin shared at her funeral, again, so many years ago now, and for your friendship as well after you were married. Our family shares in your mourning at this time and hope and pray that you are able to find comfort in your loving memories of him, today and always. We also wish to all of you that Kevin's memories always bring you a warm and loving reminder of his many gifts, which were a blessing to us all. Peace be with you as you journey and may God hold you all as you mourn. Sincerely, Paul, Lara, and Rebekah Doughty.

When I put my faith in Christ in the summer of 1981, Kevin (a friend of my younger brother) was the only other evangelical Christian student I knew in our high school in Sudbury (along with one of our Science teachers--Rick Shore--who also went to Kevin's church). Kevin was instrumental in encouraging me in my new faith, with his genuine compassion, quirky humour, and "maturity beyond his years". He and I got involved in helping start up a new 'coffee house' drop-in centre to encourage other youth and young adults in their faith journey. Had I not had Kevin in my life that first year alone in my trust in Christ among my family and friends, I'm not sure how long it would have been to get me started well. We reconnected a little on Facebook only 3 or 4 years ago, but never got to meet again in person. But I am sure I will be applauding joyously when all the followers of Christ are gathered around Him, and the Master steps forward and places a crown on Kevin's head and says "Well done, My good and faithful servant!". We'll see you soon, dear brother!!

I had the pleasure of getting to know Kevin through the Parent Involvement Committee. Kevin was incredibly welcoming to me as a newcomer, and always went out of his way to speak to me and make me feel welcome. His smile was infectious, and I am grateful I got to know him. May his family take comfort in knowing how many lives Kevin touched, and the lasting impact he had on the community which he served.

Gail, my heart goes out to you and your family in the passing of Kevin. Though I did not know him, I did know you, and can only imagine what a wonderful husband and father he was. His accolades speak volumes about him and the legacy he leaves, not only in your family but in the greater community. My wishes are for Grace upon all of you as you make this transition to life without Kevin, yet embracing all that he brought to you, your family, his friends, his colleagues, his congregations, his charitable work and his patients. My deepest condolences to you all. Kevin was such a wonderful part of the Edgewood experience. I had the good fortune to work with him for several summers there and Edgewood would not have been the same without him. Dear Gail, Joshua, Hannah, and Helen, Kevin opened many hearts to God's grace and peace, including ours. I remember that most beautiful Kalevala Koru cross (Räisälän Hovinsaaren risti) which his mother gifted him. That cross is a symbol of hope and new life in Christ Jesus that does not know limits! May that hope carry you through these difficult days! Herran rauha olkoon teidän kanssanne! - Elina and Ed

Gail, Josh and Hannah...I would like to express my deepest condolences to you on the passing of Kevin. He is at peace and has left behind a wonderful legacy in all three of you. Your memories will always be there and thanks to God you were able to build more memories than what the Doctor's had originally offered. Treasure them, each day is a special gift.
